    Holy Cow Sliders

    Hi,

    My home page is showing a date just above my first post. How do I remove the date from the page?

    Thanks!

    The blog I need help with is holycowlenny.wordpress.com

    Before we remove the date, it would be good to figure out what you’re trying to do. :-)

    Are you going to be adding posts to the homepage, i.e. as a blog or news area? Or will it be a static page, with information that won’t change often?

    Right now it looks like it’s designed to be a static front page.

    The way WordPress works, the site is set up by default to display your lastest blog/news posts on the homepage, in reverse chronological order – i.e. with the newest posts displayed first. Each post has a date attached to it.

    If instead you’d like your front page to be a static page, I suggest you do this:

    – copy the information from your post to a page instead, and delete the un-needed post.

    – set the front page to be a static page, and select the page you just created. Full instructions here. If you’ll be having a blog or news area somewhere other than the homepage, follow the guide’s instructions on how to set that up.

    – add some widgets to your sidebar to get rid of the default categories/archives/search widgets: https://holycowlenny.wordpress.com/wp-admin/widgets.php

    If you simply want to keep everything as is but hide the date, you can use a browser inspector to find the element to hide – which is post-date – and add this to your custom CSS:

    .post-date {
    display: none;
    }

    Let me know how it goes!

    Kathryn,

    Worked perfectly, thank you! My next question on this topic is:

    How do I change the title of the home page? Right now, it just says HOME – I’d like for it say Welcome (or something) while keeping the title on the top left ‘home’.

    Great!

    To do that, change the title on your post:

    To have your menu label remain “Home” you’ll need to set up a custom menu under Appearance > Menus, and customize the label for the homepage. Here’s a full guide to setting up a custom menu.

    Let me know how it goes, and for any new questions, please feel free to start a new thread. Thanks!
