oldest to newest order for archived posts

Hello,

Now that my blog is underway I’d like to make a change to how my readers view my archive posts.

Basically I’m happy for my posts to be seen with the newest on top when it comes to my homepage.

But in the categories ‘The Qatar Collection’ (My short stories) and ‘My Top 20 albums’ (My Album Reviews)I’d like to display the posts from oldest to newest.

I’ve read the support pages on this but can’t figure out how to edit my category urls.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Leighton,

To change the URLs, you’ll want to head to your custom menu setup page under Appearance > Menus in your site’s dashboard. You can delete the regular “Category” menu items for “The Qatar Collection” and “My Top 20 Albums” (since those are by default in reverse chronological order) and add custom links to those category pages instead.

That way, you can use the link format mentioned on the Show your Posts in Chronological Order support page, like this:

http://leightonliterature.com/category/my-short-stories/the-qatar-collection/?order=asc

By adding that menu item as a custom link instead of the usual category menu item, you can reverse the order. Please let me know if you have any questions about that. :)

Hey Rachel,

Thanks for your reply.

Pulling my hair out a bit here. I had no problem deleting the ‘Qatar Collection’ menu item and re-applying it as a custom link.

But then how exactly am I attaching my short stories to this link? I’ve tried editing the URLS of each post as indicated but this isn’t synching them to my new custom link.

I’m well aware this is probably me just being stupid so thanks for your help and patience.

P.S. I’ve decided I only want to reverse the order of my short stories not the album reviews.

Hi Leighton,

You don’t need to do anything different to attach your short stories to this link. This is the same as your category page at http://leightonliterature.com/category/my-short-stories/the-qatar-collection/ except that it’s displaying the posts in the opposite order.

As long as you add the category “The Qatar Collection” to a post, it will appear on that page.

If you’re having trouble with any of your stories not showing up there, please let me know!
