    Looks like TheFour is available for self-hosted sites here:

    And just in case you weren’t aware (it’s a relatively new thing!) the WordPress.com Business plan now offers the ability to upload your own plugins, just like self-hosted sites do. It also includes our entire collection of premium themes, as well as the ability to upload custom themes.

    Excellent. That’s very helpful. That’s also good news about the business plan. Uploading plugins was one of my criteria. An additional criteria is site monetization through membership (including payment functionality). Is that still unavailable through WordPress.com, or has that changed.

    Hi Mike – I double-checked for you, and membership plugins are one of the few areas where the Business plan may not be the right fit at the moment, since it currently requires all members to have a WordPress.com account. I’d suggest a self-hosted site for building a membership site – these are the hosts we recommend:

    One other quick question. If I migrate to self-hosted wordpress.org through one of the hosting providers you indicated, should I get a refund for the wordpress.com annual fee that I already paid (personal plan). It was on 12/28 so still within 30 days. Or is there any strategic reason to keep that active?

    You could certainly get a refund for your Personal plan, minus the cost of the domain (artillry.co) which I’d strongly suggest you hang onto. If you cancel the plan including the domain, you may never get it back!

    If you need help with that, we can take care of processing the refund, while making sure you keep the domain.

    Also, just so I’m clear, even though i’ll be transferring the site to a self-hosted wordpress.org site with Bluehost, the domain hosting (artillry.co) remains with wordpress.com where I originally bought and established it (or does that move over to bluehost as well)?

    So in the future when I manage the domain in any way, I will continue to do so on wordpress.com, even though I’ve moved the site hosting elsewhere?

    I guess this comes down to a difference between site hosting and domain hosting, which I’m still unclear on and learning as I go. Can those two things happen in different places (as long as the domain points to the site host)?

    Exactly – WordPress.com would continue to be your domain registrar, managing artillry.co. It would no longer be your web host. (Do not delete your underlying artillry.wordpress.com website – you’ll need it to be able to manage the domain.)

    Exactly. You are also free to transfer your domain to another domain registrar (that could be Bluehost, or to another service) 60 days after your domain was registered.

    Yep! Web hosting and domain registration different functions, and can be provided by two different companies.
