As you know, I changed the main column width of my theme. I believe the main column width is now 640.
When I select an image to be a Featured Image, the image is being cropped and is not as wide as the main column.
I would like to set the default size of a Featured Image in a post to be the full column width (640) and the full height of the photograph (9999), without any cropping applied to the image.
I am planning to make the first photograph of each post a Featured Image and I want the entire original photograph to go in at the top of the post without any cropping.
I understand that the Featured Image will then be cropped to appear in the slider if I make the post a Sticky Post.

Would you mind giving me a link to 2-3 posts where the featured image is being cropped on the height so I can take a look? Thanks!April 7, 2014 at 6:00 pm #149614
Here are two posts with a featured image selected. You will see that there are two images. The featured image is the top one and it is cropped. The image below is the full photograph the way I want it to appear as the featured image. (My intention is to replace the original photograph at the top of the post with the featured image and delete the original image).

Thanks for the links, that helps me see the issues more clearly.
the image is being cropped and is not as wide as the main column.
I think think this likely needs to be fixed in the theme itself, since the width of the featured image should follow the content width you set in the customizer.
Let me have our developers take a look and I’ll get back to you.
Once the width is altered, we can experiment with some CSS to change the height on particular images.April 8, 2014 at 6:22 pm #149682
Our developers have taken a look at this and unfortunately for technical reasons, it’s not possible to tie the width of the featured image to the content width you set in the Customizer.
I did still try modifying the height and width with custom CSS but the image quality wasn’t acceptable, because the graphic was being “artificially” enlarged to override the set height and width in the code.
Sorry I don’t have better news on this one. If I can help with anything else, just let me know.April 25, 2014 at 1:37 pm #150420
