My Sweet LifeMemberHi There,
One of the features that I really liked in the demo of this theme is that each post date had a different colour… but mine are all showing as the same colour?
I went back into this page: http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/flora-and-fauna/ to check I hadn’t misunderstood, but it defo seems to say “All post formats display with a unique background colour for the date flag” – am I missing something? Could I have accidentally changed a setting?
Thank you! :)

blankMemberHello,
All post formats display with a unique background color for the date flag. If you choose a different post format for your posts, you will see the background color change.
You can read more on how to setup Flora and Fauna here:

My Sweet LifeMemberI’m sorry, I don’t think I understand your reply… I do have posts with different dates (Aug 30th & Sep 1st), but the background colour / date flag isn’t unique; they’re all the same colour (yellow).
This was exactly my question; I understood different dates would have different coloured flags… I am new to wordpress so perhaps misunderstanding your reply… but still don’t understand why my differently dated/flagged posts have the same background colour?

My Sweet LifeMemberHi… I’m still having problems with this? I’ve tried posting some videos in video formats too and they’re still yellow? Plus lots and lots of different date flags now too… and all still yellow…?
This was a feature I really liked so would be very grateful if someone could help :)

Kathryn P.Happiness EngineerHi there, let me try to explain this feature. :-)
When you create a post, you can choose from a variety of post formats from the box in the right column, which looks like this:
http://cl.ly/image/261Y3H2Z353q
Post formats are meant for displaying different types of content, and include Standard (the default choice), Aside (which you’ve chosen for a few of your posts already), Video, Quote, etc. You can read more about post formats here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/post-formats/
Some themes, like Flora and Fauna, then use the post format you select for each post to display the post differently. With Flora and Fauna, the date background changes colour depending on which post format you’ve selected. For example, dates on the Aside posts have a pink background, while Standard post date backgrounds are yellow-gold.
Just let me know if you have any other questions.

Kathryn P.Happiness EngineerHi there, I’m just checking in to see if this sorted out the issue for you. Please let me know, thanks!

My Sweet LifeMemberHello! Sorry – meant to get back sooner but been busy creating! :)
Yes… I understand it now – I have to confess I did originally think that the date flags themselves just changed colour with each new post, regardless of post format – hence why I was so confused… but now I get that they will change colour if I change the post format; and that’s kinda cool too as can help me “categorize” them for readings skimming down the page :)
Can I just check it makes no difference to things like seo etc if I post certain articles as “aside” articles (when they’re not really, I just want them to have a pink flag!) – google doesn’t prefer a particular post format does it?!
Sorry if that seems a supremely silly question; it’s been a bit of a steep learning curve creating this page! :))

Kathryn P.Happiness EngineerOn the SEO front I doubt there would be any major issues. Content is content. :-)
You may find that in addition to the date colour changing, there are small differences in the way each post type is displayed. You could take a look at the demo site to see what those differences are:
http://floraandfaunademo.wordpress.com/
The post format is also printed at the bottom left, below each post. For example, this is a Quote:

This is something else to consider – it may look odd to see the word “Quote” or “Gallery” below a post when that isn’t really what the post consists of. Up to you to decide!

My Sweet LifeMemberAh, gotcha – thank you! I like the different coloured flags enough to hope no-one notices if it’s got a slightly quirky post format ;)
I’m going to mark this as resolved now; thanks muchly again for all your help! :)
