I figured out about archiving, through some searching. However I have read very closely how to create categories, and the directions do not fit with what’s on my blog. I think I am supposed to put in quotes, my categories, along with tags, which are unquoted. Yes?The blog I need help with is lillisamy.wordpress.com
But when I went to appearance, menus, there was no primary menu because I have two pages already. It also did not allow me to expand categories. I have categories I’d like my work to be funneled into, I just can’t figure how to do it.January 29, 2014 at 3:50 pm #146039
Tags and categories are two different fields. You can read more about the differences here:
Do you want to create different menu tabs that are categories, so that, for example, you’d have a tab called “Stories” and every post in the “Stories” category would go under there?
If so, you’ll want to set up “Category Pages.” We have a full guide here:
Can you please try to go through that, and if you get stuck at any point, let me know and I’ll help you out?January 30, 2014 at 5:57 am #146071
I really appreciate your response to my difficulties with categories. I have poured through the differences between tags and categories. I cannot discern a difference. I thought categories are “quoted” while tags are not– but that does not seem to be the case, either.
As far as the help page on category pages, I had already gone to that page…and even with rereading I am running into the same problems. I feel they are somewhat too intricate to describe.
I may just have to go without categories. I am at a loss.January 30, 2014 at 4:43 pm #146098
Categories are added in Posts->Categories here:
Or in the Categories module below your posts here:
They work in much the same way as tags, but categories are generally considered broader. So, for example, if you wrote a book review of To Kill a Mockingbird, you might tag it ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ and ‘Harper Lee’ and add it to the ‘Book Reviews’ category.
Does that clear things up a bit? If not, can you describe a bit more what problems you’re facing with using categories? I’d be happy to help.February 5, 2014 at 5:21 pm #146397

I went to the widgets, and those helped me the most. I still can’t figure out much, but I am slowly trying to learn. Thanks for checking in!February 5, 2014 at 7:45 pm #146417
