usfwsnortheastblogMemberHi! We are having a few issues with this theme, and I’m hoping you can help.
1) We can’t get the excerpt function to work. We need to display different text in the home blog feed than what is actually in the blog post, e.g. a teaser or intro to the post content. But the text that we put in the excerpt box doesn’t show up anywhere. Help!
2) Can we add CSS code so that the slideshow auto changes?
3) Can we add CSS code so that both widget sidebars are on the right? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is usfwsnortheasttest.wordpress.comJanuary 31, 2013 at 2:25 pm #129501
usfwsnortheastblogMemberHi there – Still hoping for some help with our blog. We recently imported our blog over from blogspot to WordPress.com in the
Funki theme (usfwsnortheasttest.wordpress.com), and we can’t get the excerpt/entry.summary function to work properly. This is vital to our blog. The “more” function will not work for us because it means we have to have the same content in the home feed as we do on the blog post itself, just truncated. Basically, we want custom text on the home page feed, not the full blog or first few sentences.
When I looked through the CSS, the entry.summary only shows up in the featured sticky post. That restriction isn’t mentioned anywhere. We need to have the entry.summary for each post in the home page blog feed. In fact, not only is there not a manual excerpt option, but there’s not an automatic.
We also wondered if we could use the featured photo caption as a place for this custom teaser text, with a manual link to the true post. However, not having luck so far with looking for a way to manipulate the css code for that.
Please help us! We’re getting quite frustrated with this constriction.

Custom Excerpts are not used on the Funki home page outside of the featured area, so this functionality isn’t available, I’m afraid, and I do not think that it will be added. Please see this comment for more information (it’s about Elemin but also applies to Funki).

This is correct. Only the featured area has this.

This is how the featured area currently works in Funki.
If you need help adding style tweaks, let us know what you’d like to tweak and we’ll be able to suggest Custom CSS for you.
Cheers.

usfwsnortheastblogMemberHi there – Thank you. I’m very sorry to hear this.
Can we add a style tweak so that the featured photo of each post (not sticky posts) shows its caption on the home blog feed page? Right now, the featured photos don’t show their captions within that blog feed on the home page.
Thanks!

usfwsnortheastblogMemberI had another thought on this. I’m still wondering if we can get the featured photo caption to show – that could solve our problem because we could use the caption in place of the excerpt (i.e. post the excerpt text in the caption box and add a manual link to the true post).
Alternatively, if that doesn’t work, can we change the “more” CSS so that the text above the “more” tag doesn’t show on the true blog post? As in, the text above the “more” tag only shows on the home page blog feed? This could also meet our excerpt need because we can have unique text on the home page blog feed, i.e. a teaser, and the link would go to the true post.
Thanks!

Michael FieldsMemberHello, it looks like you have switched to the Sight theme about 14 hours ago. Have you decided to not use Funki any more?
February 5, 2013 at 5:09 pm #129751
usfwsnortheastblogMemberYes! You’re right. Thanks for checking in. All these items work in Sight – excerpt, auto slideshow and widget sidebar. We are trying to make the photo larger in the slideshow. We’d like the photo to be stretched across under the text. Can we adjust this in the CSS, perhaps by percentage or something?
Thanks!

Michael FieldsMemberUnfortunately there is no great way to do with with CSS without stretching the image and decreasing it’s quality. Might I suggest http://freshandcleandemo.wordpress.com/ – it’s the only other theme I know of that uses excerpts on the home page and has a full-width featured content area.

usfwsnortheastblogMemberThanks, Michaelfields! We tried this one but the thumbnails are too small – the featured images on the home blog feed I mean. Is that adjustable?
February 6, 2013 at 2:39 am #129790
Michael FieldsMemberSorry, but image sizes are not adjustable. I’ll start a discussion with our team and see if we can work something out for the future (I cannot make any promises though). For the time being – there is no way to enlarge the images though.

usfwsnortheastblogMemberThat would be wonderful! Thank you for starting the discussion.
