I am setting up this blog, and I would like to set up blog posts within each of the pages I have set up across the top. Can this be done without having to set up a new page within a page? The blog I need help with is codtravelandeventplanning.wordpress.comSeptember 21, 2012 at 2:39 pm #123025
Howdy. This isn’t possible using only Posts/Pages. What you would need to do is take advantage of WordPress’ categories and tags. So if you have a bunch of posts that are filed under a category named Travel Planning then you would create a menu item that links directly to the category page for Travel Planning, which would be located at http://codtravelandeventplanning.wordpress.com/category/travel-planning/. Let me know if you need any additional help with this. Cheers.September 22, 2012 at 1:38 pm #123069
Yes, I definitely need help. Can you give me step by step information how to do this? I understand the concept that you are talking about, but I have no idea how to do it.September 22, 2012 at 2:49 pm #123075
In addition, how can I get a specific page excluded from a page widget? It says “page ID, but I have used the name, and the short link and nothing happens.September 22, 2012 at 2:57 pm #123076
One more – how can I remove “uncategorized” from my category widget? If it can’t be removed, is there a way to hide it?September 23, 2012 at 11:23 pm #123120
Right now you have 47 Posts published, and Categories associated with those posts:
Certificate Options: http://codtravelandeventplanning.wordpress.com/category/certificate-options/
You also have Tags associated with the posts:
You can tag or categorize your content any way that you like, and then use your Menus page to organize a suitable navigation bar for your visitors.
See this documentation for information on finding the proper Page ID.
The only way to hide Uncategorized from your Category Widget would be to make sure that no posts are filed into this category.
Hope that helps.September 25, 2012 at 5:12 pm #123236
Ok, I think i’ve figured out the Uncategorized issue. And I’ve gotten the “hide page” under control. What I am struggling with now is that I have followed the instructions to create a custom menu (there are 2 categories at the top – Travel, Event Planning). i need to be able to add pages or posts to these headers without them appearing as a drop down. Please help.September 26, 2012 at 10:04 am #123276
This documentation should help you get started with Custom Menus: http://en.support.wordpress.com/menus/. Please give it a read and let me know if there’s anything else I can do for you. Cheers.
