adding comment totals to top of post

I have seen some layouts where the total comments made is listed right below the title of the post. Is this a change I am able to make to this theme?

I’m afraid it’s not possible at this point. It’s an interesting idea though, so we’ll discuss it as a possible enhancement for On A Whim.

I was wrong on this; there is a comment count, it’s just at the bottom of the post (left-hand side), not the top:

Unfortunately, I’m not sure that adding the comment counts right below the title would work well in this theme.
